EUROPEAN RECAP: NAPOLI, PSG DROP POINTS

In the Italian Serie A, Napoli drop points for the first time this season following their goalless draw against AS Roma at the StadioOlimpico on Sunday evening. The result ended their eight-match winning start to the season though they are still the top team in the division on goal difference away from AC Milan in second place.

Napoli and Milan are the only unbeaten teams in the Italian Serie A. The two teams have 25 points after nine games.

In the biggest game of the weekend in Italy, Inter Milan conceded a late Paulo Dybala penalty to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Juventus. The Italian champions took a first half lead through EdinDzeko but were not able to hold on till the end of the game. The penalty from Argentine attacker Dybala one minute from time ensured that Inter Milan remain seven points adrift of Napoli in third place.

Real Madrid saw off Barcelona in the El Clasico on Sunday afternoon to record a fourth successive league win over their arch rivals for the first time in 56 years  (since 1965). David Alaba gave Madrid the lead at the expense of their hosts with a well taken first half strike. Spanish international Lucas Vazquez added a second goal for Madrid in stoppage time. Barcelona substitute Sergio Aguero also pulled one back for his team in stoppage time but the goal proved to be mere consolation for the Catalan giants.

With the result, Real Madrid closed the gap on leaders Real Sociedad to one point in second place, while Barcelona are six points off top spot in ninth place. Also on Sunday, leaders Real Sociedad were forced to a 2-2 draw by defending champions Atletico Madrid. A pair of goals from Luis Suarez in the second half made the comeback possible for the home team, Atletico Madrid. The holders are three points off Sociedad in fourth place. The big La Liga trio of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid all have a game in hand on the leaders.

In England, Liverpool recorded their biggest Premier League win over Manchester United away from home. Egyptian star Mohamed Salah scored three goals in twelve (12 minutes) to lead his team to a thumping 5-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday. With the result, Liverpool are now within one point of top spot recipients Chelsea on the Premier League log, while Manchester United are seven points further back in seventh place.

French Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) dropped points for the second time this season as they played out a goalless draw with hosts Marseille in the Le Classique on Sunday night. PSG had to play a little over half an hour with ten men after AchraafHakimi was sent off. The leaders saw their advantage reduce to seven points at the summit with the result against Marseille. Hosts Marseille are one place down from third to fourth on the league table after the draw with PSG. Marseille are ten points off PSG with a game in hand.
