Morrison hails team performance in must-win game against Brighton

Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison has hailed the performance of the team following their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on the road on Tuesday night. The Welsh outfit had faced a must-win game to keep their survival hopes alive and they managed to do so with Morrison and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing finding the scoresheet.

Speaking after the game, Morrison acknowledged that the club were facing a do or die situation on the night and they managed to excel in flying colours with the three points, he said: “It was do or die tonight. It was a very important game. We’ve got two very tough games ahead of us and tonight was of great importance.

“It was great coming away with three points and the lads were incredible tonight. All of the hard work that went into the game was incredible. I’m so proud of the team. It’s been almost over a year since I last scored. A bit of a dry spell! But I’m happy to get the clean sheet too. It doesn’t matter how we won, just as long as we did.”

With the result, Cardiff have closed the gap to 17th-placed Brighton to just two points but they have played an extra game more than Chris Hughton’s men. Nonetheless, they seem to have a slightly friendlier schedule to end the campaign with winnable games against Fulham and Crystal Palace, and it remains to be seen whether they can manage to produce a similar level of performance during the final stages.

Neil Warnock’s side are scheduled to entertain Liverpool at the Cardiff City stadium for the weekend and the game remains a difficult one, considering the Reds are challenging for the Premier League title. Still, the manager will expect another hard-working performance from the team and they could yet spark a surprise after the strong home showing against Chelsea last time around. Cardiff lost the game 2-1 in controversial circumstances after a blatant offside goal was allowed for the Blues.
