Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has landed in the UK Police net after being accused of being involved in an alleged rape scandal, according to reports from multiple sources. The French defender popped up on the radar of the authorities on Thursday but the case was not treated with enough urgency until the early hours of Friday afternoon and after several pieces of evidence were discovered against him, he has since been nabbed and will now have to defend himself in court as it was revealed that he would be spending some time in Police custody before being charged to court in a few days.

The reports gathered revealed that it was not the first time he would be involved in a rape case and according to the revelation made at his first court appearance, he has allegedly been involved in up to three rape cases in the past year and has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Following the confirmation that the matter would be subject to serious investigation by the police, his club, Manchester City announced that they had suspended him indefinitely and that they will also work collectively with the police to help them carry out their investigations. French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon have reportedly tabled an offer to Liverpool for the signing of wantaway forward Xherdan Shaqiri this summer. Shaqiri is said to be fed up with the limited game time he has at Liverpool and has already told the club that he wishes to leave this summer and a move to Lyon could be on the cards in what is expected to be a beneficial transfer for the player. Before the arrival of Portugal international forward Diogo Jota at Liverpool, Shaqiri was already in the shadows of the trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino but the situation became worse for the Swiss star after Jota was signed by Jurgen Klopp.

Despite the struggle he keeps getting to play for Liverpool under Klopp, Shaqiri is a confirmed starter for the Switzerland national team and was also called up to link up with the rest of the squad for their UEFA Euros campaign earlier in the summer. However, knowing fully well that he is slowly nearing the end of his playing career, he wants to have access to regular playing time and that’s why he could be leaving Anfield before the end of the summer transfer window.
