Willy Caballero speaks about the importance of beating Tottenham

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero has said that the Blues need to return to winning ways when they face Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s London derby in the Premier League. The west London giants have significantly slumped in terms of their league form over the past five matches where they have attained just three points.

As a result, they no longer hold a significant advantage in the race for the final Champions League spot and Spurs can leapfrog them to the fourth spot with a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium this weekend. Speaking on Sky Sports News, Caballero has stated the importance of the forthcoming derby with the Blues in need of maximum points.

He told: “We love this kind of game and this rivalry. It’s a massive derby. We want to win because it’s a derby and because we lost the last game. We need these three points. We know they’re putting in better performances now, they’re running differently from two months ago. We’ll have to do a great job over there. We know we can do better than we did in the last couple of games at home.”

The Blues have impressed in the attack front with an average of nearly two goals and that has regularly got them out of jail from the defensive displays, which have been error-prone. However, the goals have dried up over the past few games and they have drawn blank against the likes of Bournemouth and West Ham United, who are languishing closer to the drop zone.

That has certainly frustrated both the fans and pundits alike and the Blues players will be hoping to come up with a better display when they tackle Spurs on the road. Chelsea have fared better away from home this season with 15 goals gained from eight matches. Still, they have a challenging game on their hands this weekend, considering they have suffered three defeats from the past four away meetings to Spurs.
